Questions & Answers

Will it fit in my van?

A scaffold frame will only fit into the empty storage area of a full-sized van. Even at that, it's recommended that you transport scaffolding in a truck bed that does not have a canopy.

Can I work on dirt?

Yes, just use the leveling jacks to make sure the scaffold is level. Also, many pros lay a foundation of boards underneath the jacks to make sure the footing is solid.

Preparation

clear area of hazards and debris

check for overhead hazards as well

make sure you are working on a hard level surface. or have the appropriate leveling jacks and tie off bars

Identify whether you'll be needing rollers -- for slab and smooth surfaces, or leveling jacks for an irregular surface.

Do's & Don'ts

DO: Although one person theoretically can erect a small scaffolding set-up, it's better and safer to have some help when setting up your scaffolding. Several people are required to erect towers taller than 5 feet.

DON'T: Skip or leave out parts. If you find you are short a brace or locking piece, Do not continue -- go back to the rental yard and pick up the missing components. Safety is of the utmost importance when working with scaffolding.

DO: Make sure your tower is level -- the slightest tilt gets exaggerated the higher the tower.

DON'T: Use the scaffold as a make-shift hoist, or to hoist anything at all.
